Theory book
This is a newly set and recut edition of the earlier ones by Furter, with a shortened title and some red printed lines on the title page; for more details and the attributions to Schönsperger see Ripin. The entries in RISM are irregular and incomplete. There seem to be several issues: the Vienna copy misprints the signature F2: J2, the Karlsruhe copy also F2:J2, furthermore N4:N2, F2:J2. Otherwise the pages look the same.
A3r-v: Dedication to Wilhelm von Honstein, dated „Geben zu Basel auff afftermontag Margarethe [20 July]. Tausentfünffhundert und .xj. Jar.“
Framing title woodcut with several instruments.
A2v: Woodcut of interlocutors in dialogue, Andreas Silvanus and Sebastianus [Virdung]. Woodcut contains images of rebec and harp.
I2v: Woodcut of lutenist with artist’s monogram VG (Urs Graf) and additional monogram in the left corner. There are no borders, only a two-line frame (see Ripin p. 203).
Several woodcuts of instruments throughout the book.

woodcut
Textura, Schwabacher, Text printed from woodcut, Rotunda, Uncial
red type on title page
Contains numerous woodcuts of musical instruments and of a lutenist [fol. Iijv]; diagrams of lute neck with frets. Apart from the transposition of the dedicatory epistle, Schönsperger has tried to make a page-for-page facsimile of the Basel editions. The woodcuts have all been recut, though quite skillfully. There are some errors, such as “Psalter Spil” instead of “Platerspil” on B4r. On G3r, the woodcut giving the list of notes in organ tablature is printed upside-down (in A-Wn, not in D-W). On C4v the Tympanum Jheronimi is printed upside-down (D-W). Textura and rotunda used as display types.
In the woodcut the staff, notes and text are printed together.
Mensural notation; Tablature (lute: German); Tablature (organ: German)
See Brown (1511/3) for full details.
G2v-H3r: Woodcut notes set into text: individual notes, ligatures, explanation of tablature notation.
H4v-I1r: German lied setting for four voices (O haylige / onbeflecte / zart iunckfrawschafft marie) in white mensural notation (woodcut with woodcut initials). Tenor and text on H4v, [Discantus], Altus and Bassus on I1r. Text incipit given in [Discantus] only.
I1v-I2r: Organ intabulation of previous piece (O hailige) with lower three voices in tablature and [Discantus] in mensural notation (note values halved).
M2v-M3r: Lute intabulation.
motet, polyphonic song, music for instrumental ensemble, music for solo instrument (exc. keyb., lute, plucked instruments), music for lute or other plucked instruments
H4v-I1r: one German Lied setting for four voices (O haylige / onbeflecte / zart iunckfrawschafft marie) in white mensural notation (woodcut), also intabulated for organ and lute.
