two snakes in a skutcheon that wound around a stick hold by two hands, with a bird sitting on top (part of the title border, signed by Hans Holbein). At the very end of the book again Froben’s mark, here surrounded by four lines - one in Latin, two in Greek and one in Hebrew.

The second part of this edition contains a collection of poems with no music. This edition was printed by Froben’s heirs and funded by his widow Gertrude Lachner.

On the title page is an inscription in an early sixteenth-century hand: “Liber fratrum Carthusiensium Basilee minoris donatus ab honesto viro magistro Joanne Frobenio ciue atque Calcographo Basiliensi. The other books in this collected also belonged to Zwingli. On the title page of the second book, for example, he indicates that Johann Froben gave this book to him.
Bound with five other books with no connection (not contemporary collection, but bound at some point in the late 19th/ early 20th century).
Additions in brown ink, possibly two different hands in both parts.
Two inscriptions of previous owners of title page: one by Franciscus Cervinus an other by Jakob Vollenweider (1591). On the second title page also an inscription by F. Cervinus and below by Jakob Vollenweider of Zürich (with the date 1590) [Ex libris Jacobi Vollenweideri Tigurini Helvetij 1590].
